MALVERN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Scott Miller is one of three Fighting Back Scholarship Program honorees who has triumphed over a life-changing illness or injury through courage, desire and perseverance. Scott and two other honorees will be recognized at the Fighting Back Scholarship Program Annual Achievement Night on April 17 at The Desmond Hotel in Malvern. It is a night of inspiration, tears and encouragement that makes the volunteers of the Fighting Back Scholarship Program work even harder to help more people, raise more funds, and again be inspired by the remarkable strength of someone considered to be disabled.

The Fighting Back Scholarship Program fills the void left when a patient leaves medical rehabilitation settings and re-enters home life. This program offers continued progress and rebuilding by resuming exercise even when insurance coverage runs out.

Since 1989 the Fighting Back Scholarship Program has awarded over 260 scholarships to qualified participants in the five county area to pay for their training sessions. Three Fighting Back Scholarship Program honorees are chosen each year to be recognized at the Annual Achievement Night by a team of dedicated community leaders who give their time freely to this inspiring organization and the people it helps. These leaders have seen first-hand the healing power that the Fighting Back Program offers; most have been with the organization for 5 or more years.

Fighting Back helped Scott Miller get stronger, defy limits and regain confidence. He now volunteers five days a week at Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital, sharing his positive strength and encouragement with other stroke patients. “You can do it! You can do it!” says Scott with passion and determination. He relates. He knows. He gives back.

A CASE STUDY:

Scott Miller, Haverford, PA

Honoree 2008

Scott Miller had a stoke that rendered his left limbs paralyzed. In a moment in time his life changed forever. But Scott didn't change. He approached rehab with determination and grit.

After spending months in Bryn Mawr Rehab, Scott was discharged only to find, "My first day of rehab was the day I left the rehabilitation center."

How do you fit back into your own life? How do you deal with your new limitations? For Scott, the answer was to take life head on - push further, be stronger.

The answer was "Fighting Back."

Other honorees: Velma Hilton, West Chester, PA and John Takash, Wilmington, DE
