SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UPEK® Inc., the leader in fingerprint biometrics, today launched the Eikon® To Go fingerprint reader, enabling enterprises to add the security and convenience benefits of fingerprint authentication with an added layer of identity assurance provided by RSA SecurID® two-factor authentication technology. The Eikon To Go is a portable USB device that allows remote employees to simply swipe their finger to access corporate network resources. UPEK will be demonstrating the Eikon To Go in the RSA booth (#1817) and UPEK booth (#2003) at the RSA Conference 2008, April 7-10.

Were pleased to offer a product that helps to solve pains for both the IT manager and the employee, said Bill Bockwoldt, director of software and services at UPEK. Biometrics has traditionally been a technology reserved for niche markets, but integration with RSA SecurID two-factor authentication indicates that this technology is ready for mainstream corporate use.

Major data breaches violating employee and customer privacy have prompted corporations to tighten endpoint and network security and legislators to mandate regulatory compliance, often at the expense of employee productivity and user experience. The Eikon To Go enables IT managers to increase security using strong, multi-factor authentication and help meet regulatory compliance, while mobile employees benefit from a more convenient method of logging into corporate networks and increased productivity.

An extension of the CES award-winning Eikon fingerprint reader product line, the Eikon To Go offers, in a portable form, the same UPEK technology embedded into millions of laptop computers by most major PC manufacturers. The Eikon, Eikon To Go, and notebook PCs with UPEK fingerprint sensors incorporate UPEKs unique Digital ID hardware engine enabling UPEKs Secure Endpoint Solution. UPEKs Protector Suite® software is RSA SecurID Ready and provides a simple user experience with RSA Authentication Manager, the software engine that powers the RSA SecurID solution. For a list of supported notebook computers, see the UPEK Web site at: www.upek.com/tokens.

The size of a standard USB flash drive, the Eikon To Go features a sleek design and a sliding cover that protects the fingerprint sensor and USB connector when transported. Coupled with UPEKs Protector Suite software, users can simply swipe their finger instead of typing usernames and passwords to log into Windows, access password-protected Web sites, encrypt and decrypt files, switch users and launch favorite applications. The Eikon To Go can also securely store RSA SecurID software token seeds, available for purchase and enablement from RSA or its channel partners, to generate one-time passwords directly from within the biometric hardware.

IT security technologies are often bewildering to the people who have to use them, said Roger Kay, founder and president of Endpoint Technologies Associates, Inc. As these technologies have matured, however, some have become more accessible to normal people while still ensuring a high degree security compliance. For this reason, the adoption of biometric-based security, which is both intuitive and secure, is likely to rise.

Two-factor authentication is no longer a one-size-fits-all solution, as enterprises are looking to leverage a single device to support additional security capabilities, said Sam Curry, vice president of product management and product marketing, identity and access assurance group, RSA. As a result, we are working with UPEK to build the necessary confidence that corporate data is being accessed securely by customers, partners and employees to optimize our joint customers deployments by balancing risk, cost and convenience and offering a broad choice of authentication mechanisms.
