SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Thursday, Feb. 28, at 11:00 A.M. the City of Santa Rosa will celebrate the grand opening of The Crossings at Santa Rosa, an affordable multi-family community developed by Urban Housing Communities LLC (UHC) and Heritage Community Housing Inc. (HCH).

Located in Northwest Santa Rosa off Cleveland Avenue, just south of the Coddingtown Mall at 820 Jennings Avenue, the community features 48 apartments in two floor plans including a three-bedroom at 1,190 square feet and a two-bedroom at 995 square feet. All apartments are reserved for families earning from 30 to 50 percent of the area median income for Sonoma County, as published by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The community is close to schools, parks, employment, retail services, and transportation.

Grand opening speakers will include Nancy Bennett, deputy district director for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger; Michael Allen, district director for State Senator Pat Wiggins; Phil Olsen, commissioner and past chair of the Santa Rosa Housing Authority; John Bigley, chief operating officer, UHC; Cesar Delgado, executive director, HCH; and residents of The Crossings at Santa Rosa.

The total cost of development was $18 million. Financing was provided by the City of Santa Rosa Housing Authority, the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the Affordable Housing Program of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, federal low-income housing tax credits, tax-exempt bonds, Citibank, and Morgan Stanley.

The Crossings at Santa Rosa was designed by award-winning architectural firm, KTGY Group, Inc., and reflects UHCs thoughtful consideration of the needs of the residents, community and environment. During design and construction, arborists were consulted to preserve two native oak trees; these were incorporated into the site plan along with a nearly quarter-acre grass lawn. This large backyard will be available for residents to use for picnics, barbecues, and outdoor games. Other amenities include a 2,000 square foot community center, a computer lab, laundry facilities, and a leasing office.

Non-profit partner HCH is collaborating with community-based organizations to design social and education programs addressing the specific needs of the communitys residents. Kaiser Permanente will provide health screenings; Lewis Adult Education Center will teach GED and ESL classes; several national and local banks will conduct financial training; and Santa Rosa Jr. College will arrange occupational certificate programs in culinary arts and construction management. All programs are provided onsite at no charge to residents.

The Crossings at Santa Rosa is 100% leased. Interested applicants should contact Solari Enterprises, Inc. at (714) 363-4090.
